24-7Nurses Overview

24-7Nurses is a nationwide service referring health care professionals to temporarily staff acute care, long term care and home health communities. RNs, LPNs, CNAs and Medical Assistants are carefully screened, tested and must meet high standards to be contracted by 24-7Nurses. To continually be referred to clients, health care workers are required to consistently demonstrate their competence, professional accountability and conduct. Our cost-effective service enables clients to conveniently request professionals, examine their profiles, view completed background screen and drug testing reports, and achieve patient care, exceptional service and peace of mind. Our services include per diem staffing and travel contracts.

Screening Process

  1. Protects client's right to high quality health care by assuring temporary health care workers referred by 24-7Nurses are competent and qualified. Practitioners must meet Standards and Criteria for 24-7Nurses to refer them to clients
  2. Practitioner meets the requirements:
    • Meets State Credential Requirements for position
    • Professional screening company, InfoLink, is contracted by 24-7Nurses to complete the nature and scope of an investigation and treats as confidential the disclosure of this information.
    • Background check. The reporting information addresses:
      • Verification of social security numbers
      • Sexual Offender Registry by State and
      • Criminal History to the extent permitted by law from various local, state and federal agencies.
      • Drug Testing
    • Health Clearance:
      • Physician Statement
      • Immunizations: including MMR, Td
      • Hepatitis B Statement
    • Work History / Reference Verification (min. 2)
    • Orientation of 4 hours per facility (at half rate of pay)
    • JCAHO / OSHA in-services attended annually
    • Insurance Certification
    • Each Practitioner must maintain their own professional and general liability insurance in the amount of: one million dollars per occurrence. Written evidence of such insurance shall be maintained by 24-7Nurses and in the contractor's profile
    • Current CPR
    • Enhanced certifications for specialty units (i.e. ACLS)
  3. Quality Assurance
    • Pre-contract screening procedure which includes the following:
      • Written or verbal verification of two references
      • Written verification of health care worker's unrestricted credential
      • Written verification of current CPR
      • Written health screen that assures the health care worker is free of tuberculosis, physically able to perform job duties and compliance with OSHA regulations regarding the HBV virus
      • Criminal History Discloser and background inquiries
    • Post-contract procedure which includes the following:
      • Written procedure for orientation for all new contractors
      • Written performance evaluation plan to include written evaluations from facilities
      • Written continuing education program
    • Compliance with state and federal wage and labor laws and federal immigration laws
  4. 24-7Nurses ensures the following procedures and requirements:
    • Annual review of 24-7Nurses and JCAHO Standards, Health Clearance and appropriate Department of Health Services, OSHA and other regulatory requirements is documented.
    • Competency Assessments
      • Tests - designed based on experience field and position.
      • Performance Reviews - To maintain a level of patient care and client standards, ongoing assessment of clinical performance is done with performance reviews provided by clients.
    • A Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Ð Checklist is completed annually to indicate competent proficiency.
    • Evidence of satisfactory program training completion, experience and certification is required for non-licensed employees.

Standards & Governance

  1. Clients regulate the standard of professional care, within the state regulated scope of the position.
    • Health Care providers will comply with the client standards and governance.
    • Enables facilities to make decisions that affect the nursing practice, empowering those working closest to the patient.
    • Clients instruct health care workers to improve patient care and the work environment
    • Client based directives create opportunity for collaboration on patient care, education and professional practice issues.
    • 24-7Nurses does not govern the assignment duties. Requirements for referral are based upon client and state requirements.
  2. Clients must orient practitioners to facility and its Rules and Regulations, including the physical layout and equipment on any unit to which the practitioner is assigned.
    • Facility may orient practitioners at one-half rate of pay, for a max of four hours
  3. Governance Policy & Documentation
    • Any individual, who is not considered satisfactory, does not comply, who would be dismissed for alleged incompetence, negligent behavior or who engages in misconduct detrimental to the best interest of the client shall be documented. Further,
    • Health care workers who do not comply with all applicable state and federal laws and client policies and procedures shall no longer be eligible for referral to clients.
    • Health care workers shall be counseled whenever a performance standard, clinical practice deficiency or infraction of client policy and procedure is identified. Counseling events shall be documented.

  8. We consistently strive to provide only quality services to our clients in accordance with the highest ethical standards obtainable.
  9. Each future health care worker, upon application, will be personally interviewed and thoroughly screened.
  10. Each applicant accepted will have a minimum of one year's recent experience in addition to education and/or training.
  11. License identification cards of each Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse, Nursing Assistant will be seen at the time of application and at renewal date thereafter.
  12. Licenses will then be verified with the State Board of Nursing.
  13. An orientation will be held for all new independent contractors, including but not limited to:
    • Job descriptions for each category.
    • What our independent contractors may expect from 24-7Nurses.
    • What 24-7Nurses expects of health care workers.
    • Policies and procedures.
    • Brief orientation on facilities we serve.
    • We will maintain a current copy of the State's Nurse Practice Act in the office and adhere to its requirements and standards of conduct.
  14. We shall offer optional education for all independent contractors to maintain and keep skills current at their own cost.
  15. We will not discriminate based on race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age or physical handicap.
  16. Home Health Care:
    • Our Health Care Coordinator will provide a care plan for each in-home client incorporating the physician's plan of treatment.
    • We will provide the services of Registered Nurse supervision for our in-home independent contractors and clients.
    • Each in-home client will be visited and the care evaluated on a regular basis by a Registered Nurse.
    • Our Health Care Coordinator will assist in planning and securing services to meet total patient care needs in cooperation with community resources and agencies.
    • We will handle all client medical and financial information so as to prevent unauthorized disclosure.
    • We will become involved with local health systems agencies to help/implement/improve standards of patient care and increase efforts to control health care costs.
  17. We will not knowingly misrepresent our service or our health care workers.
  18. We will take all precautions possible to insure the safety of our health care workers and clients.

The US Department of Health and Human Services found nurse rosters between 1996-2000 were the lowest growth rate since the survey in 1977. With an average of 25% of the nursing permanent-employee positions left unfilled, 24-7Nurses is the answer to supplementing staffing issues.

24-7Nurses is a nationwide service. Each area, or district, has a contact person called the District Business Agent. The "DBA" can help you through the application or contract process. They will also be collecting reviews, training and organizing various events or meetings in your area. The agent is your personal contact, though you can call the main office at any time.
